“For last year's words belong to last year's language

And next year's words await another voice.

And to make an end is to make a beginning."

T.S. Eliot

Dear Mosaic Comedy community,

First, thank you all for your passion, dedication, and hard work! Seven years ago Mosaic Comedy (the improvisation troupe formerly known as Monkey Butler) was started with a dream of bringing free improv classes to Los Angeles. This was inspired by our love of Christ, our community, and this city.

In a lot of ways, Mosaic Comedy was extremely successful. We grew up to have classes all over LA county, we had students who ranged between brand new all the way to industry veterans, and our teams competed in (and won!) some amazing improvisation events. And most importantly through it all, friendships were formed, community was created, and many, many laughs were had. Mosaic Comedy was always a ministry that was concerned with helping people to know the love of Jesus in a tangible way, and improv classes and shows were our tool.

With that in mind, we have come to a hard decision: Mosaic Comedy, as we know it today, has come to an end.

There was a lot of work being put into reforming a new class schedule, new locations, and new leadership. However, during this time of reflection, we realized that we wanted more for our community and had bigger visions than just maintaining what had previously been established. The list of things that we wanted to have grow, change, and develop became bigger than what the previous dream of Mosaic Comedy could support.

We are taking time to re-invest in Mosaic, to breathe life into all the leaders and people who helped make MC the improv community you know and love. We're doing this not because anything failed, (quite the contrary!) but because we want to be able to reinvest into new projects and new ideas. At Mosaic, we say that "Structure must submit to spirit". It's a core value we hold dear; with the structure of Mosaic Comedy unable to continue as is, we're hoping to unleash your spirit and creative energies to whatever you've been inspired to do.

But while MC as a ministry is closing a chapter, we as people are still here.

We invite you to come hang out with us at Mosaic gatherings on Sunday and Midweek, MTN and Mosaic Comedy Hour.  And in September, we’ll be throwing a giant farewell party you won’t want to miss!

Lastly, there are so many amazing people and just as many amazing stories that have come out of MB & MC that we would love to give you an opportunity to share them with us.  These won't be posted anywhere. They will just serve as a reminder to us, your Mosaic leaders and teachers, for all the great memories we have created.  If you feel inclined, and we hope you do, please share your stories with us at monkeybutlerstories@gmail.com.

Let's look to the future together.

See you at Mosaic!

All the Blessings, All the Love,

Your Mosaic Comedy/Monkey Butler Team
